
Shawl, 19th century, Minneapolis Institute of Art: Chinese, South and Southeast Asian Art
patchwork kussaba or square shawl, woven in pieces which have been joined together. Design of elongated palm leaves with a curving design of white scrolls. The center is of black, and the outer pieces have been joined to it, red, yellow, gree black and lavendar. The border is made up of small vari-colored strips fringed and embroidered. Mohammedan signature (?) and date in central field.
