turning everything into a vaxxed vs unvaxxed culture war thing allowed the state to get away with not doing anything substantial to help anyone. also ive been thinking a lot about how this can create a huge rift in people’s social circles where, setting all other factors aside for a moment, you have retail, delivery drivers/warehouse staff and food service workers and stuff who are at higher risk, and you have office workers who generally work from home, can afford to have their groceries delivered etc., and who already generally only wanted to associate with people in similar economic positions as them, now have this moralized justification for doing that, just categorically refusing to hang out with non-office-workers because it’s a “safety concern.” everyone retreating to their little homogenous bubbles, narrowing their own perspectives, and cutting off avenues for solidarity amongst each other
