Named after the Japanese god of money and fishing, Evisu, the brand was founded on the principles of high-quality denim-wear manufactured using traditional, labor-intensive methods. Indeed, production was initially so time-consuming that Yamane could produce only 14 pairs per day, signing each pair with a hand-painted seagull on each back pocket.” (1991)
